This Epiphone is an inspiration machine! With a serial number dating back to the first year these thinline, hollow-body guitars were designed and produced in the company’s then newly adopted factory in Kalamazoo, Michigan, this Casino features two original dog ear P-90 single coil pickups—giving it all the raw power and brilliant tone that it had when it came off the line six decades ago! Come to CME to try it out today, and keep checking back for your next source of inspiration at #CMEFreshVintageGear! (And, remember: we love trade-ins!) SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE CHICAGO MUSIC EXCHANGE!! More about the Epiphone Casino! The Casino, also designated by Epiphone as model E230TD, is a thinline hollow-bodied guitar with two Gibson P-90 pick-ups. Although generally fitted with a trapeze-type tailpiece, often a Bigsby vibrato tailpiece is used in its place (either as a factory direct feature or as an aftermarket upgrade). Unlike semi-hollow body guitars such as the Gibson ES-335, which have a center block to promote sustain and reduce feedback, the Casino and its cousin, the Gibson ES-330 are true hollow-bodied guitars. This makes it lighter, and louder when played without an amplifier, but much more prone to feedback than semi-hollow or solid-body electrics. The Casino neck joins the body at the 15th fret instead of the 19th like on the Gibson ES models. Early versions of the Casino had a spruce top. Through 1970, the Casino headstock was set at a 17-degree angle and the top was made of five laminated layers of maple, birch, maple, birch, and maple.[1][3] With the exception of the John Lennon models, subsequent Casinos have been made with 14-degree headstock angle with five layer all maple laminated tops. Current versions have a laminated maple top, sides, and back, and a mahogany neck. Do you own one of these? Want to sell or trade it for something new? Thanks for watching my expert 2-minute tour on Utah’s Canyon Country. This video features the top 3 non-technical slot canyons for beginners. You don’t need ropes for these amazing adventures, but you do need some safety know-how. Fortunately, I wrote a guide to beginner canyoneering for Backpacker Magazine. Check it out here: https://www.backpacker.com/skills/how-to-start-canyoneering/ You want to make sure you use a tool like weather.gov to check for rain in the forecast. Rain causes deadly flash floods - water in slot canyons can quickly reach 30-40 feet high, essentially drowning you before you have a chance to escape. Therefore it’s essential to stay out of slot canyons if there is ANY rain in the forecast within a 30-mile radius of a slot canyon. Look up canyon at drainage systems too! It can be sunny where you are and raining up canyon where flooding can start. Rule number 1 when visiting the desert is DON’T BUST THE CRUST! That weird, raised, bumpy soil you see is alive. It’s called cryptobiotic soil and it is an integral part of preventing erosion and allowing for plant life to thrive in the desert. It is fragile and stepping on it will ruin years of development. Stay on marked trails when possible. If you do venture into the backcountry, pay attention to where you’re walking. Camp and walk on hard surfaces where possible.
