18x24" pastel painting "The Shark vs the House", part of my "Willing Hands" portrait series. I wanted it to be about the interplay between these two sets of hands. This is my first hand portrait featuring more than one person. Since this game is interactive by nature, I wanted to lead the eye back and forth between the two. I want to explore all the different ways we use our hands- for work, for leisure, for connecting with others. I have always been fascinated by hands as a vehicle for telling a story- not only do we talk with our hands, but our hands themselves reflect our life experiences through their individual physicality and character.
